Position Summary:

The Senior Visual Designer , reporting to the Manager, Visual Design, is responsible for maintaining continuity and design integrity across user interfaces, brand visuals, and the creative execution of global marketing materials. This includes assets for eCommerce web pages, emails, display advertising, mobile design, catalogs, flyers, datasheets, brochures, and more.

This role brings design solutions to life by leveraging established design systems and creative processes to deliver compelling customer experiences across digital and traditional projects, including our global websites. The Senior Visual Designer will create and elevate conceptual work, informative user experiences (CX/UX), and collaborate cross-functionally to meet deadlines and exceed expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Solve design problems using innovative visual and user interface best practices, informed by research and attention to detail.
  • Partner cross-functionally with in-person teams to support strategic planning and big-picture thinking.

  • Develop creative concepts for multi-departmental projects.

  • Mentor Associate Visual Designers and Visual Designers by providing thoughtful creative direction.

  • Manage projects from concept to completion, contributing design options (minimum of three per request) with a positive, can-do attitude.

  • Design high-quality creative for digital marketing initiatives, including landing pages, advertising, emails, print templates, and branded assets.

  • Enforce and maintain design systems that deliver a consistent visual user experience across all platforms.

  • Produce and manage graphic assets for an assigned set of internal stakeholders, ensuring brand alignment and customer-first thinking.

  • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve visual communication through a human-centered design approach.

  • Own the visual design process from storyboard through high-fidelity comps and prototypes.

  • Communicate design direction clearly and confidently, and apply feedback effectively.

  • Maintain high creative and production standards, especially under tight deadlines.

  • Stay flexible and responsive to shifting priorities while keeping error rates low.

  • Balance speed and quality to maximize output.

  • Contribute to process improvement and collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows.

  • Translate user insights into deliverables such as mockups, storyboards, and prototypes.

  • Apply design thinking principles across all tasks and deliverables.

  • Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of Content Strategists, Writers, UX Designers, Developers, Project Managers, Product Managers, Researchers, Brand Designers, and Creative Directors.

  • Understand and uphold the Global Design System (GDS) for fishersci.com and related properties.

  • Learn and apply brand and pattern guidelines to maintain usability standards.

  • Help enforce photography standards across teams and projects.

  • Ensure the highest quality of creative work before final delivery to stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications

Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Design or equivalent practical experience.

  • 57 years of experience in a creative, user-focused environment (in-house or agency).

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating human-centered design thinking and graphic design fundamentals.

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe CC Libraries, XD, Sketch, and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience supporting or leading creative campaigns and serving as a primary design point of contact.

  • Familiarity with photography and videography standards.

  • Strong problem-solving and ideation capabilities.

  • Confident presentation skills, both in person and remote.

  • Comfortable collaborating with UX researchers, marketers, merchandisers, project managers, and developers.

  • Understanding of end-to-end print production processes.

  • Ability to lead, influence, and work both independently and as part of a larger team.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of CX/UX design principles, visual trends, RWD, and emerging technologies.

  • Ability to produce mid- to high-fidelity prototypes.

  • Ability to iterate on design ideas using wireframes, comps, or concepts and generate multiple creative options.

  • Deep knowledge of digital marketing and brand application best practices.

  • Quick learner and agile problem solver.

  • Familiarity with tools like Workfront, Jira, and Confluence.

  • Working knowledge of front-end development principles (HTML, CSS, JS) and digital feasibility.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to align teams on design strategy and execution.
